Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before every burn. A trimmed wick helps the candle burn more evenly and keeps the flame from becoming too large.
Let the melted wax reach the edges of the can. This usually takes about two hours and helps prevent a tunnel from forming around the wick.
About two hours is a good burn for allowing the wax to melt toward the edges. Never burn your candle for more than four hours. Extinguish it, allow it to cool, and trim the wick before lighting it again.
Stop burning when about 1/2 inch of wax remains in the bottom of the can. Burning beyond that point can make the can dangerously hot.
The crystal will reveal itself as the wax burns lower. Extinguish the candle and let the wax cool slightly while it is still soft. Gently lift out the crystal with a spoon, fork, or tongs. Do not put your fingers into hot wax.
Wash it with warm, soapy water to remove the remaining wax, then dry it completely. Crystal shape, color, and size will naturally vary.
Tunneling often happens when the first burn ends before the wax reaches the edges. Our candle tunneling guide explains a simple foil method that can help.
Natural wax blends can cool with small variations in texture or appearance. This is normal and does not prevent the candle from burning properly.
No. The can and melted wax can be very hot. Extinguish the flame and wait until the candle has cooled before moving it.
