Lit Soul partners with organizations that prepare hot meals for people living with homelessness and/or food insecurity. We donate canned foods and reclaim (upcycle) clean cans to produce candles that we sell retail and wholesale.
We have two ways we donate food and reclaim cans:
- We empty the canned foods into plastic freezer-safe food-safe containers, we clean the cans and the organization receives frozen (previously canned) food.
- We provide canned goods to the organization, and we pay a per-can fee to have cleaned cans and tops returned to us. We provide guidelines for safely opening and cleaning cans.
Food Selection:
We offer a selection of canned goods each organization can choose from, we aim to purchase goods according to partner needs. Our selection includes canned goods such as fruit, beans, tomatoes, vegetables, juices and more. We provide food normally packaged in 15oz cans and 6oz cans.
Quantities:
We prefer each donation to include a minimum of 120 cans. We will set maximums on a case-by-case basis. We welcome any group, individual or organization preparing free hot meals for those in need.
Food Banks:
Our business is built upon reclaiming the cans, so we try to work with organizations that prepare meals in bulk. However, sometimes our corporate partners prefer bulk canned goods donations, and not reclaimed cans. In those cases, we can donate canned goods without the expectation of reclaiming cleaned cans.
